How to get rid of ants – Ontario California Pest Control

Ontario California pest control is no different than pest control in any other part of the country. People get unwanted pests inside their homes and want to get rid of them.  So…in many cases…they hire a pest control company.

FACT:  The number one most common household pest in the United States is ants. Ants come in a variety of colors and sizes and controlling them can be a real challenge even for a seasoned pest management expert.

But, outside of hiring a pest control company, there are some things you, the homeowner, can do to keep ants from becoming a problem in your home!

Three ways to keep ants out of your home:

  1. Clean up all food spills immediately.
  2. Keep all garbage in container with tight fitting lids.
  3. Use caulking and weather-stripping to seal up all cracks and crevices where ants can get inside.

Do-it-yourself pesticide applications can be effective in some cases, if you know what you’re doing, but they can also make the ant infestation worse, especially when dealing with species such as Pharroah ants.  In such cases, baits should be used and not spray applications.

Proper identification of the ant species is critical also because different species have different food requirements. When using baits to control ants, using the correct type of bait is critical to success.  Also, food requirements change at different time of the year.

Ant control is complicated at best. And applying pesticides in and around your home is serious business. So, if you have an ant infestation in your home and you are thinking about do-it-yourself pest control, is in a good idea to check with your local pest management expert for guidance and advice before you spend money on products and equipment that won’t be effective.
